Why I love baking and decided to open up a bakery, and why I want to share this journey with you.
It all started 20+ years ago...
I grew up with a mawmaw that could cook any type of dessert you could imagine. She entered the kitchen and knew every recipe by heart. I have very vivid memories of getting to "inspect" every icing, cake, and sugar filled treat making sure they were "up to standards." At the time it was an excuse to eat all the sugar I could stomach. Now, its memories that I cherish and one of the reasons why I love baking so much. Now as I'm the one in the kitchen cooking, I pray I am able to create that same environment for my nieces, nephews, children, and grand children.
I have loved the world of baking for several different reasons as I've gotten older. To start, I love sweet treats. I have found it very hard to be mad or sad when you're eating cookies or cake. I also love the step by step process of baking. There is always an order to things and a reason behind the order. It fascinates me that the mere temperature of the butter in a cookie batter can have such an extreme role in how the end product turns out. Mostly though, I love the joy that it brings people. I love seeing people eat something I've made and watching it make them happy.
Most of my recipes are tried out on my coworkers first. They are the guinea pigs for my tweaking and figuring out what tastes the absolute best. I have always loved the happiness a treat on a busy day in the hospital could bring people, even though they often fuss at me for ruining their diets. My other guinea pig is my sweet husband, who I won over on our first date with my homemade pumpkin bread. He is always up to the challenge for testing a new cookie or helping me perfect a new icing. He too, fusses about ruining diets!
Aunty O's has sprouted from a dream to be able to bake for people and know that they are getting something yummy, made with love, and homemade for their special occasions. The thought of having a bakery and being able to bake for more than just my friends and family, has always been in the back of my mind. So, here I am. Taking a leap of faith. I hope everyone who has my treats, feels how much love and effort I put into them.
I also hope to continue writing about this journey. I would love for y'all to get to know me and see why baking is so important to me and why it brings me so much joy.
I hope you have a blessed day, a yummy treat, and have a little more joy than yesterday.
Love,
Aunty O
